Key Responsibilities
As a Casual Cashier, you will be responsible for providing efficient and professional service to customers while maintaining accuracy and security at the till.
Your duties will include:
- Processing customer purchases accurately using the Dis-Chem point-of-sale system.
- Receiving payments through cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other approved payment methods.
- Ensuring that all money remains secure within the till and that daily takings are handled confidentially.
- Following procedures relating to cash drops and ensuring money is placed in the drop safe correctly.
- Processing refunds and merchandise exchanges when properly authorised.
- Ensuring that price changes and line voids receive the required approval from the relevant supervisor.
- Processing customer loyalty cards and applicable rewards programmes.
- Maintaining a professional and helpful relationship with customers throughout the shopping experience.
- Responding appropriately to customer questions and directing complaints or compliments to the relevant supervisor or store management.
- Keeping informed about current promotions, sales and merchandise.
- Ensuring that outgoing stock, items and prescriptions are properly scanned and paid for.
- Protecting your till access code and password and ensuring that these credentials are not shared with other employees.
- Remaining alert to suspicious activity and reporting potential security or fraud concerns to management.
- Following all relevant security, customer service and operational procedures.
- Contributing towards a safe shopping and working environment for customers and colleagues.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following essential requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
- At least 6 months’ experience in cashier or till-point operations.
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with MS Office.
- Good numerical ability and confidence when handling transactions.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to work according to retail operating hours.
- Reliable transport and/or the ability to live reasonably close to the Menlyn store.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
Having an additional third language will be considered an advantage.
Skills and Personal Qualities
Dis-Chem is looking for candidates who can work accurately and responsibly in an environment where customer service, cash handling and attention to detail are important.
