About the Opportunity
Leroy Merlin South Africa is looking for a customer-focused and motivated Sales Consultant to join its Fixing & Fastening team in Centurion. The successful candidate will play an important role on the shop floor, assisting customers with product selection while contributing to sales and maintaining a high standard of service. About the Role
As a Sales Consultant, you will interact directly with customers throughout their shopping experience. You will ask questions to understand their project requirements, provide useful product information and guide them towards appropriate solutions.
You will need to develop a good understanding of the products available within the Fixing & Fastening department. This includes being able to explain how different products work, what they are used for and which alternatives may be appropriate when a preferred item is unavailable.
The position also provides an opportunity to develop your sales and product knowledge while working in a busy retail environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of customer service, sales and store-support activities, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers in the Fixing & Fastening department.
- Understanding customer requirements and identifying suitable products.
- Helping customers select tools, hardware, fasteners, fixings and related merchandise.
- Explaining product uses, features and practical benefits in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Using product knowledge to provide helpful recommendations.
- Supporting the achievement of individual, departmental and store sales objectives.
- Developing positive relationships with customers and encouraging repeat visits.
- Delivering professional customer service from the beginning to the end of each shopping interaction.
- Keeping merchandise, shelves and displays neat, attractive and properly stocked.
- Monitoring product availability and highlighting items that require replenishment.
- Helping customers identify alternative products when their preferred item is unavailable.
- Remaining informed about new products, promotions and solutions offered within the department.
- Processing transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications.
- Working closely with colleagues to contribute to an efficient and positive store environment.
- Following the operational requirements of the store, including working weekends, evenings and public holidays when scheduled.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have a Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
Previous experience in retail, sales or customer service will be beneficial, although the position also offers an opportunity for candidates with a strong interest in the products and a willingness to learn.
Knowledge or practical experience relating to DIY, tools, hardware, fixings or fasteners will be an added advantage.
Candidates should also demonstrate strong communication abilities and confidence when interacting with customers. The ability to understand a customer’s requirements and translate those needs into an appropriate product recommendation will be particularly important.
