About Emeris
Emeris is the unified expression of four well-established academic brands within the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) family. By pooling resources, expertise, and operational frameworks, the group ensures that every student — regardless of which institution they attend — receives a consistent and high-quality experience across teaching, learning support, and campus services. Joining Emeris means becoming part of an organisation that values educational integrity and student-centred service.
What the Role Entails
The Receptionist holds a position of considerable importance, serving as the initial point of contact for everyone who walks through the campus doors or rings the campus phone line. The role blends front-desk hospitality with switchboard management and broader administrative support.
Front Desk and Switchboard Duties
You will be responsible for cultivating a polished, well-run front office that immediately communicates professionalism. This includes:
- Maintaining a tidy, presentable, and systematically organised reception area
- Greeting and directing prospective students, current learners, parents, and visiting guests with warmth and efficiency
- Building rapport with families through courteous, professional engagement that reflects the brand’s standards
- Operating the switchboard skilfully — answering calls promptly, identifying the nature of each enquiry, and routing callers to the right team members
- Capturing thorough messages when staff are unavailable, and ensuring those messages reach the intended recipients without delay
- Fielding student questions and pointing them toward the relevant department for resolution
- Supporting intercom communications across the campus
- Keeping marketing collateral, flyers, and fact sheets neatly displayed at reception
- Working alongside the Marketing Assistant team to make sure the waiting lounge and interview rooms remain orderly and inviting
Administrative and Ad Hoc Support
In addition to front-of-house duties, you will provide flexible administrative backup across the campus, including:
- Lending a hand to various departments whenever extra support is needed
- Handling the logistics of incoming and outgoing courier parcels, postal items, and deliveries — preparing dispatches, tracking arrivals, and notifying recipients
- Receiving items destined for both the National office and individual campus staff, ensuring prompt handover
- Assisting the Marketing Assistant team with appointment bookings and diary coordination for the Full-Time Student Recruitment team where applicable
- Helping with campus events, open days, and any other duties that may arise from time to time
Skills and Personal Qualities Sought
To succeed in this position, candidates should bring a strong mix of soft skills and operational competencies:
- Polished verbal communication for in-person and telephonic engagement
- Switchboard proficiency and comfort handling multiple lines
- Strong time management to juggle competing demands without dropping the ball
- Problem-solving instincts to handle unexpected queries calmly
- Sound decision-making when prioritising tasks
- Multitasking ability for a busy front-desk environment
- Excellent organisational habits to keep systems and spaces in order
Educational and Experience Criteria
Academic Minimum: A Matric certificate (Grade 12) is required.
Work Experience: Applicants should have between one and two years of prior Receptionist experience, ideally in a customer-facing or administrative environment.
Practical Requirements
Two additional conditions apply for this role:
- The successful applicant must have reliable personal transport to and from campus
- Flexibility regarding working hours, including weekends, is essential
Schedule
Standard working hours run Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00 or 07:00 to 16:00, depending on operational needs. Saturday shifts of 08:00 to 13:00 may be required as the campus calendar dictates.
Remuneration and Benefits
Emeris offers a competitive salary aligned with experience, along with a robust benefits package designed to support both professional growth and personal well-being:
- Access to lifelong learning opportunities through LinkedIn Learning subscriptions
- Staff and family discounts on the group’s range of educational programmes
- A performance-linked incentive bonus structure
- Contributions to a provident fund, with Death and Funeral Cover included for added peace of mind
- Birthday vouchers as a thoughtful personal touch
- A generous annual leave allowance for rest and renewal
