JOB OVERVIEW
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a responsible and physically fit Driver to operate a Heavy Duty Vehicle (Dental Mobile Unit). The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily transportation of dental personnel and equipment to schools and clinics within the Cape Winelands District. This role requires a high level of accountability, safe driving skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting the Comprehensive Health Component.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Transport Operations: Daily transporting of the Dental Mobile Vehicle to respective schools and clinics within the sub-districts.
· Personnel & Logistics: Transporting of personnel, goods, and medical equipment as required.
· Administration: Completion of logbooks and performing routine administrative duties related to the vehicle and dental unit operations.
· Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of the Dental Mobile Vehicle.
· Safety & Compliance: Conduct routine inspections of the vehicle and report defects immediately.
· Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies when necessary.
· Physical Requirements: Lift and load heavy items (must be physically fit).
· Relief Duties: Provide relief staff support within the Comprehensive Health Component when required.
INHERENT REQUIREMENTS (Minimum Requirements)
· Experience: Appropriate experience in the transportation of employees and goods.
· Education: Basic literacy and numeracy.
· Licenses:
· Valid Code C1 Driver’s License.
· Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
· Skills:
· Knowledge of Transport Regulations.
· Safe and defensive driving skills.
· Ability to accept accountability and responsibility.
· Ability to work independently.
· Willingness to perform administrative functions related to the dental bus.

· Candidates who are physically fit and able to handle heavy lifting will be prioritized.

COMPETENCY ASSESSMENTS
Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to:
- A written/practical assessment (driving test).
- An oral interview.
- An integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
- Pre-entry assessments as directed by the Department of Public Service and Administration.
