Role Purpose
The primary objective of this position is to perform timely, high-quality maintenance across various building systems and equipment. The Handyman will be responsible for executing scheduled preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and assisting with repairs to minimize downtime and maintain optimal working conditions within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Carry out maintenance activities based on assigned work orders and ensure all tasks are completed according to required standards and timelines.
- Diagnose equipment issues and implement appropriate corrective actions to restore functionality.
- Conduct routine servicing and minor repairs on electrical systems and appliances in line with operational requirements.
- Perform basic plumbing maintenance, including identifying leaks, fixing faults, and ensuring systems are operating efficiently.
Building and Infrastructure Support
- Handle general building maintenance tasks such as repairing doors, locks, windows, and structural fittings.
- Install and adjust office furniture, partitions, and fittings as required during workspace changes or upgrades.
- Replace ceiling tiles and carpet tiles, ensuring a clean and professional environment.
- Carry out painting and finishing tasks to maintain the appearance and condition of the facility.
HVAC and Equipment Checks
- Perform entry-level inspections and basic repairs on air-conditioning systems to ensure proper functioning.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any irregularities or faults that may require advanced intervention.
Safety and Compliance
- Conduct inspections of fire safety systems, including extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, and detection systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Check access control systems and report any faults or risks that could affect building security.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety guidelines, maintaining a safe working environment at all times.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Assist qualified artisans or technicians with complex repairs and maintenance tasks when required.
- Provide regular updates to management on maintenance progress, completed tasks, and outstanding issues.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs carried out.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- N3 Technical qualification in Electrical or Mechanical discipline
- Matric (Senior Certificate)
- Valid South African driver’s license
Experience
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in general maintenance or handyman-related roles
- Practical experience working with tools, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of occupational health and safety standards and practices
- Familiarity with quality management systems and maintenance procedures
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently
- Competence in using a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment
