As the last point of contact in the customer’s journey, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring customer satisfaction while maintaining strict security and cash-handling protocols. About the Role
As a Cashier at Cashbuild, you are the guardian of the Point of Sale. Your primary responsibility is the accurate handling of all transactions and documentation. We are looking for a vigilant individual who understands the importance of retail security—ensuring that no goods pass through the till point without payment. You will be the face of our brand, offering efficient service while balancing the operational demands of a high-volume hardware retail environment.
Key Responsibilities (Performance Areas)
- Cash Handling & Till Point Management
· Accurate Reconciliation: Ensure that all cash, floats, and petty cash allocated to you balance perfectly at the end of each shift. We maintain a strict policy regarding “no shorts and overs.”
· Transaction Processing: Correctly identify and capture goods on the Point of Sale (POS) terminal. Ensure the correct payment type (Cash, Card, or Voucher) is processed accurately.
· Change Management: Proactively ensure you have sufficient change to serve customers efficiently without delays.
· Cash Security: Perform “Pick-ups” accurately within set parameters. Execute end-of-shift “Cash-ups” meticulously and ensure all daily takings are deposited into the Drop Safe or vault immediately.
· Multi-Store Transactions: Handle complex transactions accurately, including other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes.
- Administration & Documentation
· Maintain rigorous administrative standards by signing, compiling, and filing all documentation related to the cashier function.
· Ensure all transactional records are audit-ready and stored according to company policy.
- Store Readiness (The CB Way)
· Adhere to the “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” standards as outlined in the Cashbuild Way (CB Way) operational manual. This ensures the store is always prepared for peak operational efficiency.
- Customer Service Excellence
· First and Last Impression: Offer fast, friendly, and efficient service to all customers when checking in and out their goods.
· Customer Guidance: Direct customers to the relevant department or person who can assist them with specific queries, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.
· Professional Presentation: Comply with the company’s dress code to maintain a professional brand image.
- Safety (OHSA) and Security Awareness
· OHSA Compliance: Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring customer and staff safety within your immediate area of responsibility. Report any discrepancies or hazards to the Store Manager immediately.
· Access Control: Ensure system password control at the till point is strictly adhered to. Never share login credentials.
· Asset Protection: Ensure the safe keeping of cash and its secure transport to the cash office as per the Cashbuild Way requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
· Education: Grade 12 (Matric) OR a minimum of 1 (one) year of work-related experience in a retail or cash handling environment.
· Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in English and the dominant language spoken in the Diepsloot geographical area.
· Numerical Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations accurately without the use of a calculator.
· Administrative Strength: Must possess strong administration skills for handling documentation and till reconciliation.
· Flexibility: Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and Public Holidays.
· Resilience: Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced retail environment.
