Warehouse Clerk Job Opportunity at Gold Fields

Gold Fields Group Services (Pty) Ltd is offering an opportunity for a Warehouse Clerk to join the Commercial Services team at South Deep Gold Mine in Westonaria, Gauteng.

The position is suited to an organised and safety-conscious individual with experience in administration, stores or inventory management. The successful candidate will provide both administrative and hands-on support in the movement and management of materials across the warehouse.

This role involves receiving incoming goods, recording transactions, storing and issuing materials, assisting with stock control and supporting loading and off-loading activities. Candidates should be comfortable working with high transaction volumes, following detailed procedures and maintaining accurate inventory records.

Gold Fields places strong emphasis on safety, employee development and responsible mining practices. The Warehouse Clerk will therefore be expected to consistently follow workplace procedures and contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with a variety of warehouse and materials-management activities. Responsibilities are expected to include:

  • Supporting the safe receipt of goods and materials delivered to the warehouse.
  • Assisting with the loading and off-loading of materials when required.
  • Recording incoming and outgoing stock accurately.
  • Ensuring materials are stored correctly and maintained in suitable condition.
  • Assisting with the movement and transfer of stock within the relevant materials-management system.
  • Issuing goods against authorised orders and reservations.
  • Performing basic stock-control activities and checking quantities against available records.
  • Verifying the quality and availability of materials as part of inventory-control processes.
  • Assisting with stocktaking and ensuring that physical stock corresponds with system records.
  • Supporting basic packaging activities when necessary.
  • Operating authorised warehouse machinery and equipment in accordance with applicable instructions and licensing requirements.
  • Following established work instructions when completing routine warehouse activities.
  • Reporting discrepancies, problems or deviations that could affect stock accuracy, costs or operations.
  • Working within approved budgets and identifying potential cost or process deviations.
  • Participating in Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) initiatives and campaigns.
  • Complying with all applicable safety, health, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Performing duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of colleagues and other people in the working environment.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants interested in the Warehouse Clerk position should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least two years of administrative or related experience in a stores, warehouse or inventory-management environment.
  • Practical experience using SAP, particularly within a Materials Management environment.
  • Experience with a Materials Management System.
  • A valid EB driver’s licence.
  • Ability to meet the mine’s medical fitness requirements.

Because this position is based in a mining environment, candidates must successfully complete the required risk-based medical assessment through the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre. Applicants must also pass the required Heat Tolerance Screening test, together with any additional assessments that may be required to determine suitability for the position and working environment.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate should be able to work accurately while managing a significant volume of warehouse transactions. Attention to detail is particularly important because incorrect stock records, quantities or transactions can affect the wider materials-management process.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • A strong personal commitment to workplace safety.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Accuracy when processing large numbers of transactions.
  • Competence in SAP Materials Management.
  • The ability to work independently when required.
  • Willingness to seek and provide assistance as part of a team.
  • The ability to remain productive when working under pressure.
