This opportunity is suitable for applicants who enjoy working with customers, have good communication skills and would like to build their experience in the retail and FMCG environment.
The successful candidates will become part of a customer-focused store team responsible for assisting shoppers, processing purchases accurately, supporting merchandising activities and helping maintain an organised and welcoming retail environment.
This is a customer-facing position, meaning applicants should be comfortable interacting with different types of customers throughout the working day. A positive attitude, reliability, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure will be important in this role.
About the Clicks Group
Clicks Group operates in the South African retail and healthcare market, with stores serving customers across the country. Its retail environment requires employees to provide efficient service while ensuring that customers receive accurate information about products, promotions and available services.
As a Shop Assistant / Cashier, you will contribute directly to the customer’s experience in the store. You will be expected to represent the Clicks brand professionally and assist customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed candidates will be responsible for supporting daily store operations, particularly around the point-of-sale area and customer service.
Your duties may include processing customer purchases, scanning products correctly and accepting payments while following the required cash-handling procedures. Accuracy will be particularly important because the role involves dealing with merchandise, payments and customer transactions.
You will also assist customers with information about promotions and encourage eligible shoppers to participate in the Clicks ClubCard programme. This includes helping new customers understand the benefits of the programme and registering new members where required.
Another important part of the position involves merchandising. Employees will help ensure that products are properly displayed and that the store remains neat, presentable and aligned with the required visual merchandising standards.
The role also requires general housekeeping and maintaining an orderly working environment. Candidates should therefore be willing to perform practical store-related duties in addition to customer-facing responsibilities.
You will also need to keep yourself informed about products, promotions, ranges and store events so that you can provide customers with useful and accurate information.
Skills and Knowledge
Clicks is looking for candidates who can work accurately and communicate effectively with customers and colleagues. Basic mathematical ability is important because the position involves processing transactions and handling payments.
Applicants should ideally have an understanding of retail operations, merchandising, promotions and stock-related procedures. Previous exposure to customer service or a retail environment would be advantageous.
Important skills include:
- Good communication and customer service abilities
- Basic computer literacy
- Strong numeracy skills
- Planning and organisational ability
- Problem-solving skills
- A customer-focused approach
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
- Ability to work towards targets and deliver expected results
- Ability to remain professional when dealing with workplace pressure
The successful candidates should also be comfortable working with people and interacting with customers throughout their shifts.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have Grade 12 to be considered for this opportunity.
Clicks indicates that Mathematics and English at 50% or higher at Grade 12 level are desirable, although these are listed as desirable rather than essential requirements.
Previous experience in a customer-facing position within a retail or FMCG store environment is also desirable. Candidates with relevant customer service experience may therefore have an advantage.
Who Should Apply?
This vacancy may suit job seekers who have completed Grade 12 and are looking for a permanent opportunity in the retail sector. It can also be suitable for individuals who enjoy assisting customers and want to gain or develop practical experience in a well-known retail environment.
