Cashier Job Responsibilities
The appointed Cashier will play an important role in the day-to-day operation of the store. Key responsibilities will include processing customer purchases through the till system and ensuring that the correct products and quantities are recorded.
The Cashier will also be expected to:
- Receive and process different forms of customer payments accurately.
- Ensure that cash received and the assigned till float are properly accounted for.
- Provide customers with the correct change and maintain accuracy during every transaction.
- Complete end-of-shift cash-up procedures according to company requirements.
- Ensure daily takings are handled and secured through the appropriate cash-control process.
- Process transactions involving deliveries, quotations and other store-related payments correctly.
- Check that merchandise leaving the store has been properly paid for.
- Complete, organise and maintain documentation associated with cashier duties.
- Follow established procedures relating to cash security and till access.
- Protect passwords and other security information used at the Point of Sale.
- Assist customers in a friendly, efficient and professional manner.
- Direct customers to the appropriate staff member when additional assistance is required.
- Follow the company dress code and maintain a professional appearance.
- Report irregularities, safety concerns or other issues to the Store Manager.
Minimum Requirements

- Grade 12, or at least one year of relevant work experience.
- Good spoken communication skills in English.
- The ability to communicate in the dominant language used in the area where the store operates.
