About the Receptionist Position

The role combines customer service with administrative responsibilities. The receptionist will welcome patients and visitors, provide directions and general information, answer telephone calls and ensure that enquiries are referred to the appropriate departments.
A significant part of the position involves supporting the admission process. This includes capturing and checking patient information, ensuring that required documentation is available and assisting with admission procedures in accordance with established hospital processes.

The position also involves gathering and verifying information such as patient identification details, contact information, medical aid or insurance details and information relating to the person responsible for the account.
Applicants appointed to the position may be required to capture and update information on the hospital’s SAP system, assist with online and direct admissions, and ensure that the necessary consent forms and supporting documents are completed correctly.
The receptionist will also assist patients in understanding relevant admission requirements, including medical aid authorisations, co-payments, deposits and letters of guarantee where applicable.
Financial administration is another component of the role. Duties can include receiving cash and card payments, issuing accurate receipts, balancing collections and securing funds according to established procedures. The employee may also assist with petty cash responsibilities when required.

Strong communication skills are particularly important for this position. The successful applicant will deal with patients and visitors both face-to-face and telephonically.
