Job Description
The company is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join the team at the Kempton Park facility. The Picker Packer will ensure that customer orders are handled with the precision that the Starke Ayres brand demands. This role involves accurate order picking, quality control, and assisting with various warehouse operations to maintain efficiency and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Order Picking and Assembly
The primary responsibility involves the accurate assembly of customer orders. This includes physically picking products from warehouse storage and compiling them according to specific customer requests. Orders must be transferred to a designated holding area for quality checking before dispatch.
Accuracy and Quality Control
Accuracy is paramount in this role, as the wrong seed variety can have significant consequences for farmers and gardeners. The incumbent must ensure that correct seed reference numbers are selected every time. All items picked must be in clean and saleable condition, meeting laid down quality standards regarding packaging, labelling, and outer appearance.
Inventory Management Support
If discrepancies or incorrect reference numbers are identified, it is the duty of the Picker Packer to report these immediately to the Stock Controller. The role also requires advising the Stock Controller when certain items are out of stock and awaiting further instructions before proceeding with order completion.
Stock Counts and Administration
The Picker Packer assists with bi-annual stock counts as well as ad hoc stock checks as instructed by the Stock Controller. Additionally, this position assists with the invoicing of customer orders and provides product information to walk-in customers when required.
Housekeeping and Safety
Ensuring that work areas remain neat, tidy, organized, and clean at all times is a continuous responsibility. The role also involves assisting with and adhering to security measures to ensure the safety of products, assets, and the facility.
Team Collaboration
When personal responsibilities have been executed and completed, the Picker Packer is expected to assist fellow workers with the execution of their tasks to maintain overall workflow efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Grade 12 is essential for this position. A Warehousing Diploma or Certificate would be ideal and advantageous for applicants.
Experience
A minimum of 2 years experience as a General Worker is essential. Experience in a warehouse or picking environment will be beneficial.
Skills and Attributes
Attention to detail is critical for accurate order picking and quality control. The ability to follow instructions and report discrepancies promptly is required. Good communication skills are necessary for assisting walk-in customers and collaborating with team members. A commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area is expected.
