Job Description

Starke Ayres stands as the foremost African specialist and a leading global supplier of premium vegetable, flower, and lawn seed varieties, catering to both commercial agricultural operations and home garden enthusiasts. We are dedicated to excellence in every seed we distribute and every interaction we have with our valued customers.

We are currently seeking a responsible, reliable, and detail-oriented individual to join our logistics team as a Driver Light Motor Vehicle, based at our Bloemfontein depot. This position is ideal for a driver who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of customer service, and is meticulous about vehicle safety and delivery accuracy. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 3000kg, ensuring that our products reach our clients in pristine condition and on schedule. If you are a dedicated professional with a clean driving record and a passion for representing a premium brand, we encourage you to read further and consider applying for this exciting opportunity to grow your career with Starke Ayres.

Key Responsibilities

As the Driver Light Motor Vehicle, you will be the face of Starke Ayres to many of our clients. Your primary responsibilities will encompass the entire delivery cycle, from loading to final sign-off. You will assist and supervise the loading of the delivery vehicle, meticulously checking that all goods loaded correspond exactly with the Delivery Notes and signing for acceptance of the load before departure.

Upon arrival at customer locations, you will unload the goods and check them against the Delivery Note in the presence of the customer. It is your duty to ensure the customer signs the copy of the Delivery Note as Proof of Delivery. In the event of any discrepancies, you must list any goods found short and have this noted and signed by the customer to maintain transparency and accurate record-keeping. For Cash on Delivery orders, you will be trusted to collect payment from the customer, providing a receipt and ensuring the secure handling of monies.

A critical aspect of this role is quality control; you must ensure that all goods delivered are in a clean and saleable condition, paying close attention to packaging, general appearance, and neatness. Upon your return to the warehouse, you are responsible for handing in all Proof of Delivery documents and COD monies to the Depot, Stores, or Despatch Supervisor. When required, you will also collect returns from customers as listed on a Goods Return Voucher and hand these in along with the corresponding documentation to your supervisor.

Maintaining the company’s assets is paramount. You will carry out daily and weekly checks as per the Company’s Vehicle Check List, completing the checklist and highlighting any problem areas before leaving the warehouse. You must maintain the vehicle in a clean and roadworthy condition at all times and report any defects or suspected defects timeously to your supervisor. Finally, you will maintain a detailed vehicle delivery schedule, accurately recording times of arrival and departure and ensuring this schedule is signed off by the customer to confirm service delivery times.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Driver Light Motor Vehicle position, candidates must meet the following essential criteria. A Grade 12 National Senior Certificate is mandatory for this role. You must possess a valid Driver’s License Code 8. While a Code 10 license is beneficial and will be viewed favorably, it is not a requirement for this specific position focused on vehicles under 3000kg.

Crucially, we are looking for individuals with proven, verifiable experience. You must have previous experience as a delivery assistant or driver for a minimum of two years. This experience is essential as it ensures you are familiar with the demands of the road, the importance of vehicle safety checks, and the high level of customer service required when making deliveries. The successful candidate will demonstrate a responsible attitude, a clean driving record, and a commitment to upholding the high standards of the Starke Ayres brand. Your ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and handle documentation accurately will be key to your success in this role.
