About the Role

We are seeking a polished, customer-focused Hotel Receptionist to become the welcoming face of our establishment in the heart of Sandton. This role is far more than a standard front desk position; it is the cornerstone of the guest experience. As the primary point of contact, you will orchestrate seamless check-in and check-out processes, manage reservations, and deliver the high standard of personalized service that defines our brand.

If you possess a passion for hospitality, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take pride in creating memorable stays for guests, we want to hear from you. This permanent position requires a candidate who understands the nuances of luxury service, from upselling room features to handling VIP requirements with discretion.

Key Performance Areas

Operational Excellence & Front Office Management

· Reservations Management: Take ownership of all booking channels—including online travel agencies (OTAs), telephone inquiries, and walk-ins—to ensure reservations are processed promptly and accurately, maintaining the continuity of hotel business.
· Financial Accountability: Administer your own float with precision, conduct end-of-shift cash-ups, prepare guest bills, and process payments efficiently.
· Systems & Equipment Oversight: Proactively identify and report issues regarding floor appearance, equipment malfunctions, or system failures to ensure the front-of-house areas remain pristine and fully functional.
· Inventory Management: Regularly check and restock information brochures, ensuring that all collateral is current and readily available for guests.

Guest Relations & VIP Services

· Personalized Service: Acknowledge and greet every guest with a genuine, friendly smile, treating all individuals with the utmost respect. Build rapport to make guests feel comfortable and valued throughout their stay.
· VIP Preparation: Review arrival and VIP lists daily to understand special requirements. Assist in preparing and distributing welcome amenities, ensuring high-profile guests receive a bespoke welcome experience.
· Concierge Support: Handle special requests with poise, whether it involves booking theatre tickets, storing valuable items, or arranging transportation.
· Issue Resolution: Address guest complaints courteously and efficiently to protect the image of the hotel, ensuring that any dissatisfaction is turned into a positive resolution.

Sales & Upselling

· Revenue Generation: Actively promote and upsell the hotel’s facilities, services, and accommodation rates. As a brand ambassador, you will identify opportunities to enhance guest stays by offering room upgrades or promoting on-site amenities.
· Local Expertise: Maintain thorough knowledge of the hotel, resort facilities, promotions, and surrounding areas to provide accurate directions and recommendations.

Communication & Coordination

· Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as a communication hub by taking and passing on messages. Report housekeeping and maintenance issues to the relevant departments to facilitate quick repairs and ensure guest comfort.
· Record Keeping: Maintain clear, comprehensive records of guest room bookings and billings for accountability and future reference.
· Professional Presence: Maintain proper decorum at the reception desk at all times, ensuring a professional appearance and a welcoming atmosphere.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate a blend of formal education, practical experience, and specific soft skills suited to the hospitality industry.

Education

· Grade 12 (Matric) is required.

Experience

· A minimum of 2 years of experience in a customer service environment is essential.
· Preference will be given to candidates with experience specifically within a hotel environment, as familiarity with property management systems and hotel workflows is highly advantageous.

Skills & Knowledge

· Shift Flexibility: Ability to work shifts that meet operational requirements, including weekends and public holidays.
· Physical Stamina: Must be physically able to move around the front desk area and stand for extended periods.
· Adaptability: An open attitude is required to perform similar functions in alternative outlets due to operational requirements.
· Language Skills: Knowledge of an additional language (relevant to the Sandton market, such as French, Portuguese, or a local South African language) is an advantage.
