Key Responsibilities
As a Grade C Security Officer with Thorburn, you will be the first line of defense in maintaining a secure environment. Your daily duties will encompass a wide range of operational and strategic tasks:
- Protective Operations
You will be responsible for the physical security of the site, ensuring the safety of employees, visitors, and high-value movable assets. This includes safeguarding buildings, vehicles, and equipment against theft, vandalism, or damage. - Access Control and Traffic Management
Maintaining the integrity of access points is critical. You will manage the entry and exit of personnel and vehicles, verify credentials, and ensure that only authorized individuals gain entry. Additionally, you will direct traffic flow to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth operational workflow. - Surveillance and Patrols
Proactive surveillance is key to prevention. You will conduct regular foot patrols of buildings, perimeter fences, and high-risk areas. Utilizing modern security infrastructure, you will monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and other surveillance technology to detect irregularities. - Incident Response
In the event of an emergency or security breach, you must act decisively. This involves responding to alarms, mobilizing assistance using signaling devices, and managing the situation until the threat is neutralized or authorities arrive. You will be expected to remain calm under pressure and take command of the scene. - Reporting and Compliance
Accuracy in documentation is non-negotiable. You will compile detailed incident reports, observation logs, and occurrence records. Furthermore, you will ensure that all security procedures align with local, provincial, and national regulations, supporting emergency protocols such as fire prevention and evacuation drills. - Operational Readiness
You will conduct preventative checks on all issued security equipment to ensure functionality. Any defects or malfunctions must be reported immediately to avoid operational downtime. - Customer Service and Professionalism
While security is the priority, customer service is paramount. You will interact professionally with staff, clients, contractors, and visitors, maintaining a professional presence that reflects the high standards of the Tsebo Solutions Group.
Candidate Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
· Certification: Valid PSIRA Certificate (Minimum Grade C) is essential.
· Education: Matric (Grade 12) certificate.
· Experience: Previous experience in the security industry is required, with a proven track record of reliability.
· Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to perform patrol duties, stand for extended periods, and respond to emergencies. The role requires working shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
· Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with access control systems, CCTV, and alarm monitoring is necessary.
· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are mandatory. You must be able to articulate incidents clearly in reports and interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
· Advantageous Skills:
· A valid Driver’s License (varies by site requirements).
· Firearm Competency for business purposes.
