We are currently seeking a committed and reliable individual to fill the position of General Worker Inhouse Loader at our Durban facility. This role is essential to our daily operations, ensuring that cargo is handled safely and efficiently as it moves through our network.
Position Overview
As a General Worker Inhouse Loader, you will play a critical role in the logistics chain. You will be responsible for the physical handling of freight, ensuring that goods are loaded and offloaded correctly and that the workspace remains clean and organized. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
· Loading and Offloading Operations: Efficiently and safely load and offload cargo from linehaul vehicles. These long-distance trucks are the backbone of our inter-city freight network, and proper handling is essential to prevent damage and delays.
· Local Vehicle Support: Assist with the loading and offloading of cargo from local delivery vehicles as and when required. This ensures that all freight, whether regional or local, is processed smoothly.
· Cargo Handling: Handle various types of freight with care, adhering to safety protocols and company procedures to maintain the integrity of goods in transit.
· General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. This includes sweeping work areas, organizing materials, and ensuring that all equipment is stored correctly. A tidy warehouse is a productive and safe warehouse.
· Adherence to Schedules: Work within strict timeframes to ensure that vehicles depart and arrive on schedule, contributing to the overall efficiency of the logistics operation.
· Team Collaboration: Work closely with drivers, supervisors, and other warehouse staff to coordinate activities and communicate any issues related to cargo or safety.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
· Education: Minimum Std 8 / Grade 10 certificate.
· Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of handling the demands of loading and offloading cargo.
· Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both understanding instructions and conveying information.
· Work Ethic: Proven ability to work under pressure without compromising on quality or safety. Must also be able to work unsupervised and take initiative when required.
· Reliability: Must be reliable and dependable, with a strong track record of punctuality and attendance.
· Integrity: A high degree of personal integrity is required, as you will be handling client goods and must adhere to company policies regarding theft prevention and security.
· Presentation: Must be presentable at all times, as you represent the company while on duty.
· Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work overtime as and when required due to client demands and operational needs.
· Transport: Must have own reliable transport to and from work, as public transport may not align with early morning starts or late finishes required by the role.
