Debtors Recovery Clerk Job Opportunity in Centurion

A well-established organisation in Centurion is seeking three temporary Debtors Recovery Clerks to provide additional support to its Debtors Management team. The successful candidates will play an important role in following up on outstanding debtor accounts, evaluating the possibility of recovering unpaid amounts, and assisting with the administration and escalation of accounts that require further action.

This opportunity would suit candidates with practical experience in debtors management, credit control, collections or related financial administration, together with a sound understanding of accounting and financial procedures.

The organisation is committed to maintaining strong professional values while providing an environment where employees can contribute to business objectives and develop their skills. Successful applicants will be expected to work accurately, communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders, and manage their workload effectively within strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

As a Debtors Recovery Clerk, you will be responsible for assisting with the recovery and administration of outstanding accounts. Your duties will include investigating debtor accounts to establish the circumstances surrounding unpaid balances and determining whether the amounts can reasonably be recovered.

You may also be required to communicate with collection attorneys, legal representatives and other relevant stakeholders regarding accounts that have progressed through the recovery process. Clear and professional communication will be important when requesting information, providing account-related details and following up on outstanding matters.

Another key responsibility will involve preparing comprehensive recommendations where an account may need to be considered for write-off. These recommendations must be supported by appropriate information and prepared according to the organisation’s internal procedures and departmental requirements.

The successful candidates will also assist with ensuring that matters are escalated appropriately and that recommendations are submitted for consideration and approval within the required timeframes.

Attention to governance and internal controls will be essential. Employees will need to assist in ensuring that the required Delegation of Authority (DOA) procedures are followed when dealing with recommendations, approvals and other financial processes.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have a relevant qualification in Finance, Accounting or a related field.

Candidates must also have at least three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Debtors management
  • Debt collection
  • Credit control
  • Accounts receivable
  • Financial administration involving debtor accounts

Experience dealing with legal recovery processes, collection agencies or attorneys will be beneficial, particularly for applicants who have worked with accounts that have required escalation beyond normal collection procedures.

A good understanding of financial controls, write-off procedures and governance frameworks will also be important for this position.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have strong analytical abilities and be comfortable reviewing financial information to determine appropriate recovery actions. Good problem-solving skills are required, as debtor accounts may involve different circumstances and require careful investigation before a recommendation can be made.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The successful candidates will need to communicate with different stakeholders and prepare clear reports, correspondence and recommendations.

Computer literacy and the ability to work confidently with financial and administrative information are also required.

Candidates should be organised, detail-oriented and capable of handling several tasks while working towards strict deadlines. The ability to remain professional and productive in a pressured environment will be particularly important.

Important Information

This is a temporary contract opportunity of less than six months, with three positions available. The position is classified at a skilled work level and is based in Centurion, Gauteng.

The salary package is market related and will depend on the organisation’s applicable remuneration structure and the successful candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.

The position is designated as an Employment Equity (EE) position.
