Minimum Requirements
Applicants interested in this opportunity must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License
- Valid PDP
- Minimum of 2 years’ driving experience within the FMCG industry
- Experience delivering and selling FMCG products
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Good numeracy and cash-handling skills
Candidates should also be willing to work weekends, public holidays, overtime shifts, and be available when operational support is required.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery and Route Operations
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting bread and confectionery products safely to customers across assigned routes. Daily duties include checking orders, ensuring stock accuracy, and delivering products according to customer requirements.
Drivers must ensure all deliveries are completed on time while maintaining professional customer relationships throughout the route. Candidates will also be expected to identify opportunities to increase daily sales and expand the customer base.
Additional delivery duties include:
- Ensuring stock loaded matches customer orders
- Assisting with loading and offloading when required
- Monitoring stock levels during deliveries
- Arranging replenishment stock when demand exceeds supply
- Collecting empty crates and minimizing crate losses
- Delivering products to retail stores and traders
- Assisting during vehicle breakdowns or route disruptions
Customer Service and Sales
This role is not only focused on driving but also on sales and customer engagement. Drivers will interact directly with customers daily and must maintain a friendly, respectful, and professional attitude at all times.
Responsibilities include:
- Building strong relationships with existing customers
- Identifying and acquiring new customers
- Reporting customer concerns or service challenges
- Supporting promotional campaigns and product launches
- Monitoring competitor activities and market trends
- Securing customer orders for future deliveries

- Ensuring the vehicle remains clean and roadworthy
- Following all road safety regulations
- Wearing prescribed PPE clothing and safety equipment
- Reporting accidents, theft, or damages according to company procedures
Candidates must demonstrate responsible driving behavior and comply fully with occupational health and safety requirements.
Cash Handling and Documentation
Because the role involves direct sales and cash transactions, accuracy and accountability are essential. Drivers will be responsible for handling company cash securely and completing all required documentation correctly.
Key financial and administrative duties include:
- Safeguarding cash and stock during deliveries
- Depositing money into the vehicle safe immediately
- Completing invoices, delivery notes, and route documents accurately
- Reconciling stock sold with cash received
- Completing cash-ups with supervisors at the end of routes
- Reporting shortages or discrepancies immediately
- Remaining alert to fraudulent activities or counterfeit money
Strong attention to detail and honesty are critical qualities for this role.
Van Assistant Supervision
Drivers will also oversee van assistants and ensure teamwork standards are maintained throughout daily operations.
This includes:
- Supervising and guiding van assistants
- Ensuring assistants maintain professional conduct
- Providing coaching and on-the-job training
- Reporting performance concerns when necessary
- Promoting a positive working relationship within the delivery team
