Key Responsibilities
Customer Service Excellence
· Deliver exceptional customer service by adhering to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
· Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers
· Implement Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles in all customer interactions
· Address customer queries regarding store merchandise professionally and efficiently
· Report customer compliments and complaints promptly to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
Cash Register and Transaction Management
· Operate cash registers with precision and maintain accurate cash drawers
· Process all customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system
· Handle multiple payment methods including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons
· Process loyalty cards for accelerator partners including Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks
· Ensure all line voids and price changes receive proper supervisor approval and sign-off
· Exchange merchandise and process authorised returns according to company policy
Security and Fraud Prevention
· Maintain zero tolerance toward inaccuracies and actively eliminate fraud risks
· Ensure cash is placed in drop safes according to Dis-Chem’s Standard Operating Procedures
· Keep all money strictly safe and secure inside the till at all times
· Protect your unique code and password, ensuring they remain confidential and are changed regularly
· Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management immediately
· Verify all outgoing stock and items are scanned and paid for
Operational Excellence
· Adhere to customer turnover hourly rate targets
· Stay informed about current sales and promotions
· Maintain awareness of surroundings to prevent exposure to risks for colleagues and customers
· Handle daily takings confidentially, discussing only with management
· Analyse basic reports as required
Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualifications
· Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)
Experience
· Minimum 6 months cashier or till operations experience (essential)
· Proven track record of working in a retail environment
Technical Skills
· Computer literacy – proficient in MS Office
· Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
· In-depth knowledge of cash register operations and cash drawer maintenance
· Understanding of sales, refund, and payment processing procedures
Language and Communication
· Strong command of the English language (written and oral)
· Third additional language (advantageous)
