As a Cashier, you will be the final point of contact for our customers, ensuring their shopping experience ends on a high note. You will be responsible for the meticulous handling of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions, maintaining strict security protocols, and ensuring that no goods leave the store without proper payment. Key Responsibilities (Performance Areas)
In this role, you will be expected to perform the following tasks with precision and efficiency:
- Cash Handling & POS Management
· Balance and Accuracy: Ensure all cash assigned to you, including floats and petty cash, balances accurately at the end of your shift. We strictly monitor for shorts and overs.
· Transaction Processing: Correctly identify and capture all goods on the POS terminal, ensuring the correct payment type (cash, card, voucher) is registered.
· Cash Management: Maintain sufficient change throughout your shift. Perform accurate cash pick-ups within set parameters and complete end-of-shift cash-ups without error.
· Security Protocol: Ensure all daily takings are securely deposited into the Drop Safe or vault. Process all inter-store transactions, deliveries, and quotes correctly.
- Administration and Documentation
· Record Keeping: Sign, compile, and accurately file all documentation related to the cashier function, ensuring a clear audit trail for all transactions.
- Store Readiness (The “CB Way”)
· Standards Compliance: Adhere to all “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” standards as per the company’s operational guidelines.
- Customer Service Excellence
· Customer Interaction: Offer fast, friendly, and efficient service to all customers when checking in and out their goods.
· Assistance: Direct customers to the relevant department or person who can assist them further with inquiries or heavy loads.
· Professionalism: Maintain a neat appearance and adhere to the company’s dress code at all times.
- Safety and Security Compliance
· OHSA Requirements: Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) by ensuring the safety of both customers and staff within your area. Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager immediately.
· Security Awareness: Adhere to system password control at the till point. Ensure the safekeeping of cash and its secure transport to the cash office as per company policy.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this Cashier position in Protea, candidates must meet the following criteria:
· Education: Grade 12 (Matric) is essential.
· Experience: Minimum of 1 (one) year of work-related experience, preferably in retail or cash handling.
· Language: Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant language spoken in the Protea geographical area.
· Numeracy: Strong ability to perform basic calculations accurately and quickly.
· Skills: Must possess strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
· Availability: Must be willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends and Public Holidays.
· Temperament: Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment.
