About the Cashier Position
Cashbuild is looking for a reliable and customer-focused Cashier to join its store operations in Tembisa, Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing customer purchases accurately, handling cash and other payment methods, maintaining the required documentation, and providing efficient service at the point of sale.
This position is suited to someone who is comfortable working with customers, numbers, cash transactions and administrative duties. The Cashier will play an important role in ensuring that every transaction is processed correctly and that merchandise leaving the store has been properly paid for.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Cash and POS Operations
- Process customer transactions accurately using the Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Ensure that products are correctly identified, scanned and recorded.
- Capture the correct payment method for every transaction.
- Handle cash, floats and petty cash responsibly and ensure that amounts balance.
- Maintain sufficient change at the till to assist customers efficiently.
- Complete cash-ups accurately at the end of each shift.
- Ensure daily takings are deposited into the designated drop safe or vault according to company procedures.
- Process transactions relating to deliveries, quotations, other stores and related payments correctly.
- Complete customer and cash pick-ups accurately within the required procedures.
- Ensure that no unpaid goods or stock leave the store through the point of sale.
Administration Duties
The Cashier will also be expected to maintain accurate administrative records associated with the cashiering function.
Duties include:
- Completing and signing relevant cashier documentation.
- Compiling required records and paperwork.
- Filing documentation correctly and ensuring records are kept in an orderly manner.
- Paying close attention to detail when handling financial and transaction-related information.
Customer Service
Customer satisfaction is an important part of this role. The successful applicant should be able to interact professionally with customers and provide assistance throughout the purchasing and checkout process.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing fast, friendly and efficient service.
- Assisting customers when they check in and out with their purchases.
- Directing customers to the appropriate employee when further assistance is required.
- Maintaining a professional appearance and following the company’s dress requirements.
- Handling customer questions and concerns with a helpful and positive attitude.
Safety and Security
The Cashier must contribute to a safe and secure store environment by following all applicable workplace procedures.
This includes:
- Complying with occupational health and safety requirements within the area of responsibility.
- Considering the safety of customers and colleagues while performing daily duties.
- Reporting discrepancies, incidents or concerns to the Store Manager.
- Protecting till-point system passwords and ensuring that access controls are followed.
- Safeguarding cash and following the required procedures when transferring money to the cash office.
- Adhering to Cashbuild’s established operational and security procedures.
Requirements
Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or at least one year of relevant work experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to communicate in the dominant language spoken in the area where the position is located.
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work accurately with cash and financial transactions.
- Ability to remain calm and productive in a busy retail environment.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- A customer-focused approach and professional manner.
